Life’s Restoration
by Melissa Presti

From my own experiences, I’ve come to learn that renewal, be it emotional, physical, mental, or spiritual, is completely subjective. It’s learning how to recharge after a hard day, celebrating the joys of life, and picking up the pieces after life-shattering events. It’s becoming inspired by the world surrounding you to take on the challenges life has to offer in order to feel fulfilled.

Naturally, renewal will probably mean different things to different people; spiritually it could be a reconnection to your religion, physically it could be as drastic as plastic surgery or as simple as a bubble bath, mentally it could be learning a new hobby or job, challenging yourself with puzzles or taking a class, and emotionally it could be getting together with friends, advancing your relationships, or recovering from a severe loss. Renewal can come as a result of negative events, like a job loss or something that makes you want to make a change, and sometimes as a result of positive events that automatically change you.

No matter the cause, I think life is constantly presenting these opportunities to change and better myself, and in my short life I’ve felt the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Looking back I can see now that I was able to move on from each situation to the next triumph or defeat. It’s the period of time in between that mattered the most, and how I chose to spend it reflecting and transforming myself to shape the person that I’m gradually becoming.
